Yesterday, Chinaccelerator, the first mentorship-driven seed funding program in China, hosted its second “Demo Day” in Beijing, where it showcased its 9 newest startups. Within the oldest Peking opera theater called "Zheng Yi Ci", the accelerator hosted over 200 people flying from all over the country, including angel investors, venture funds and the geeks on a plane, who came to vet the young founding teams and potentially take out their checkbooks.

Created early last year in Dalian by Cyril Ebersweiler and Sean O'Sullivan, Chinaccelerator is a Techstars Network member and holds seasonal programs, investing some seed capital and providing startups with mentoring. And, so far, Chinaccelerator has proven valuable to its entrepreneurs, with the majority of its first batch raising funds.

What happened over there last night was purely magical, with Geeks on a plane Chief Firestarter Dave McClure mentioning that "the Chinaccelerator Demo Day in Beijing was one of the most professional and well-run startup events i've attended in China -- cool venue, hot companies. The future looks bright for startups in China!".

The program would be nothing without its mentors and the audience listened to few of them on stage, including Richard Robinson (Youlu) and William Bao Bean (Singtel), the latter mentioning that "Cyril and the Chinaccelerator team have done an amazing job building a global startup community in Dalian. Most importantly the teams were passionate, from students taking time off from university and potentially dropping out to serial entrepreneurs with multiple exits. But the proof is in the money and thats why I’m investing in one of this year’s graduating class: Kwestr".
